It’s so easy to let a whole day go by without saying even one nice thing to yourself. In fact, I bet it’s not even something that crosses your mind during the day…yet, if someone else gives you a compliment, you cherish it. In fact, you probably live on the creative high the whole day!
Why is this distinction important?
The inspiration to create comes when you feel safe and confident in who you are and believe in what you are creating. So, if you aren’t providing yourself with that type of support, you’re missing one of the simplest ways to feed your own creative spirit. Nurturing your own creativity takes a willingness to be self-observant, especially when it comes to the thoughts flying through your head at lightening speed. So what better way to practice building up creative muscle then by choosing three nice things to say to yourself every day?
You can chose to practice at breakfast, lunch and dinner, when you wake up, come home from work and go to bed — whenever you think will be easiest for you to remember to do it and practice easily.
If you aren’t sure where to start, craft positive statements that center around key concepts, like:
- Acknowledging something you completed during the day, even if it’s something small
- Recognizing how you were of service to someone else
- Celebrating a new creative step you took you towards positive change in your life
Use the same statements as often as you want or choose something based on your current mood. Focus on personal areas where you need to “pump up” the self love, or may be feeling a bit low and in need of positive reinforcement.
A few kind, loving words to yourself throughout the day can make a huge difference in how you see the world and your place in it, opening your heart to new creative inspirations. So why not give it a try? What do you have to lose?
If you decide to try this, I would love to hear from you about the experience. Already practice a similar form of creative self-support? Share a little bit of your practice with the rest of us!
