Is your Creative Vision More Black and White than Color?

creative start, creativity, paint

Is your creative vision on stand-by? Can you sense a dark outline of what you think you want, but it never quite gets filled in with color, experiences or a clear sense of personal connection? Or does it feel like your creative dreams are always dancing in the background, never center stage?

This experience is totally normal and more common than you think.

There’s a sense of accomplishment you feel when you have a creative vision that guides you, giving you something to build towards. It also helps fill a core need within you to create. You can call on it when the rest of the world seems crazy, draw from it when you need to remember your value and purpose, use it as a reminder of the amazing possibilities yet to come.

However, a creative vision is not a “set it and forget it” kind of thing. It needs to be refueled along the way and given space to shift based on what’s changing in your life in the present. New priorities become more important and more generous, loving people come into your life and show you things you never knew you wanted (or thought you could have). You also connect with  new opportunities that inspire you to expand what you want to create into something freer, fresher and more refined.

When you hit this black and white space, it’s an opportunity to take a second look at your creative vision and dig in with some questions:

  • What still feels good and what can change?
  • What needs a little polish or extra effort to build, achieve, understand, clarify?
  • What are my priorities and have they changed?
  • Is there something I’ve been neglecting or ignoring that drains the color out of my creative vision?
  • How can I add more color- take a class, go for more walks, listen to energy balancing music or tones, free write?
  • Can I recommit, and if not, what is really standing in my way?

and the biggest question…

What am I willing to do to turn my creative vision into something inspiring and vibrant once again?

There are always distractions to pull you from your dreams and goals. When the draw to put your attention somewhere else continues to build while your connection to your creative vision wanes, you have a choice to make.

Recommit – Spruce things up – or – Start over with a new vision that you can really sink into and wear like a second skin.

A creative vision can be something you write, draw, imagine or do, or can be as simple as one word. The power behind it comes from knowing it’s your truth and how to call on it to keep you going, while also feeding it along the way to keep it vibrant, clear and inspiring.
