Weekly Creativity Kick-Start: Pick a Power Theme

powertheme

Nothing gets creativity moving like a power theme, helping you focus on a key strength as creative fuel. A power theme acts as a thread that strings together all of your ideas and goals through a common focus. That way, when the mind and attention wander, you have a tool to help reground and focus your attention and efforts in an organized way.

A power theme can be as simple as one word or as long as a clear statement. It helps to sit in quiet meditation, go for a walk or do some activity on your own to open your heart and mind, then see what words or images show up for you. In the past, some of my power theme’s have included: heart-centered thinking, quiet the mind and go-time. Use whatever feels good and seems like something you would say.

It can also help to turn a frustration or creative block on it’s head by making it into a power theme, shifting it into something you are willing to embrace for that month to transform the energy around it.

You can pick a power theme for the week, month or year. I find that a month is a good place to start, giving you some practice with tuning in to find one that’s a good fit, then practicing with it for 30 days. At the end of that time you can choose to keep with it or pick something new that you notice may be of better service for you in the weeks ahead.

So now that we are at the (almost beginning) of a new month, it can be fun to play with some power themes for yourself. It’s also a short month, so it will be a good place to start your practice.

Already use a power theme concept? I would love to hear more about what you chose and how it works for you.
